just over a week after co-creator, executive producer, and star Justin Roiland. Rick and MortyAppearing at a pre-trial hearing to face domestic violence charges, Adult Swim says it’s no longer working with him.
“Adult Swim has ended its relationship with Justin Roiland,” a representative of the network told Yahoo Entertainment.
He added that the animated hit would continue, and the series’ official Twitter account said the same thing.
Yahoo Entertainment reached out to Roiland’s attorney for comment.
When news of the case broke out, his lawyer, T. Edward Welbourn, told Yahoo Entertainment: “It’s hard to overstate how false the media’s recent reporting of this situation is. To be clear, Justin is not only innocent, but we have every expectation. District attorney’s evidence. “We look forward to clearing Justin’s name and helping him move forward as soon as possible.”
NBC News reported on January 12 that Roiland was indicted in May 2020 for an incident that occurred in Orange County, California in January of that year, involving an unidentified woman Roiland was dating at the time. He later pleaded not guilty to a domestic assault with bodily injury and a felony sentence of felony, violence, fraud and/or deception.
A protection order issued in October 2020 prohibited Roiland from harassing, threatening, spying on or coming within 100 feet of an unnamed person.
Plans to rebroadcast the show co-created by Society mastermind Dan Harmon unknown; Roiland voiced both title characters. Rick and Morty An extraordinarily large renewal deal was made for another 70 episodes in 2018, of which less than half aired.
