Hours after Colin Farrell’s big win at the Golden Globes, he looks set to continue his streak of success during the awards season, after selecting one of the top nominees for the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards.
The Irish actor, who starred in Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees Of Inisherin, was nominated for SAG for his performance Wednesday for the outstanding performance of a male actor in the lead.
It comes shortly after he received the Golden Globe award for the best performance by an actor in a motion picture musical or comedy for the role on Tuesday.
Farrell was also nominated for the lead role at the Critics’ Choice Awards (CCA) on Sunday, replacing him with a coveted Oscar nomination later this month.
Inisherin’s Banshees received several other acting nominations as well as one nomination for the outstanding performance of the cast in a motion picture that is the SAG equivalent of best movie.
The film is a black comedy about the shattered friendship between two men set on a remote island off the coast of Ireland.
Farrell’s three main co-stars Brendan Gleeson, Kerry Condon, and Barry Keoghan were nominated for their performances.
Bill Nighy, Adam Sandler, Brendan Fraser and Austin Butler joined Farrell in the top category.
Butler was also recognized at the 80th Golden Globe awards for his performance in Baz Luhrmann’s biography of Elvis Presley.
Cate Blanchett and Michelle Yeoh were approved in the parallel women category at the SAG awards.
They also won top honors at the Golden Globes for Tar and Everything Everywhere All At Once, respectively.
Other contenders for an outstanding performance of a leading actress were Viola Davis, Ana de Armas and Danielle Deadwyler.
Condon will be nominated for outstanding performance in a supporting role by an actress, while Gleeson and Keoghan will go head-to-head in the male category.
Eddie Redmayne was also nominated for outstanding performance by an actor in a supporting role for his performance in The Good Nurse.
Banshees Of Inisherin joins the best casting in a motion picture category, including Babylon, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Women Talking, and Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans.
The Fabelmans also took home the top award for best drama at the Golden Globes, and Spielberg was named best director.
British names were less successful on the small screen, but the royal drama The Crown was nominated for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a television drama series.
For the award, he will be covering HBO’s popular US series such as The White Lotus, Severance, Ozark, and Better Call Saul.
Taron Egerton and Emily Blunt were nominated for outstanding performance by an actor and an actress, respectively, in a television movie or mini-series.
The nominations for the 29th SAG awards took place Wednesday on Instagram live, read by Emily In Paris stars Ashley Park and Haley Lu Richardson from HBO’s hit series The White Lotus.
The ceremony will be held at Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 26.
