Five-star leaders lead 10 points in Serie A

Napoli ended Juventus’ eight-game winning streak in Serie A with a decisive 5-1 win in Friday’s top-of-the-table clash, with a 10-point lead over the top.

Juve have been showing outstanding form since losing to Milan in early October, but their defense was eventually breached by Victor Osimhen for 14 minutes.

Osimhen became the provider, playing Khvicha Kvaratskelia for Napoli’s second at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, but Angel Di Maria pulled one out at halftime.

But Luciano Spalletti’s side put a hand on Scudetto by scoring another goal from Osimhen from either side of Amir Rrahmani and Elif Elmas.

Napoli took the lead when Wojciech Szczesny made Kvaratshelia’s acrobatic attempt in Osimhen’s way for a simple close-range finish.

Di Maria sent a dipping effort into the crossbar, but Kvaratshelia doubled Napoli’s lead with a calm finish after Bremer’s fault allowed Osimhen to play with his teammate.

Juve gave them a lifeline as Di Maria overtook Szczesny after exchanging passes with Arkadiusz Milik, but Napoli had to remove the danger.

Meret did a great job preventing Rrahmani from scoring an own goal, and it was an even bigger save when the same player took a half volley shot from a corner.

After more sloppy play from Kvaratshelia and Osimhen, Bremer reconnected for a second header against Szczesny as the hosts disappeared in the 65th minute.

Substituting for Matteo Politano, who was injured in the first half, Elmas added fifth place to Napoli with a shot from Alex Sandro and completed a five-star show.

What does that mean? Scudetto on Spalletti’s side

It was a match between the best offensive side in Serie A and the team with the best defensive record, and Juve certainly couldn’t live with Napoli’s attack.

Napoli taunted Juve’s eight straight absences and the win took them to 10, but Milan could cut that down to seven when they face Lecce on Saturday.

Spalletti’s team is currently at home against Juve with their second consecutive four-league win, and is fast approaching their first Scudetto win since the 1989-1990 season.

Juve’s defense collapsed

Juventus had spent 770 minutes in Serie A – the fifth longest winning streak in the competition – before Osimhen scored the first of Napoli’s five goals.

No visiting defender can say they played well, but Bremer in particular was shocking, the Brazilian international was directly at fault in two of the opponent’s hits.

Naples’ offensive run riot

Losing 5-1 to Pescara in May 1993, Juventus conceded five goals for the first time in Serie A.

Osimhen scored one goal and assisted another, but Kvaratskhelia was arguably even better as he played four goals in Napoli’s great offensive spectacle.
