Friends express concern over missing British actor Julian Sands

Friends of Julian Sands have said they hope the British actor will be found “good” after the “terrible news” after he was confirmed missing after a hiking trip in Southern California.

The 65-year-old was reported missing in the Baldy Bowl area of ​​the San Gabriel mountains on Friday evening, and searches by local authorities continued over the weekend.

After the news broke, All Creatures Great and Small actor Samuel West wrote on Twitter: “Please, please let Julian Sands be well. A friend and an inspiration. Terrible news.”

Filmmaker Cassian Elwes also wrote on Twitter: “I know since Friday my friend Julian Sands has been missing from Mt Baldy. I’m devastated.

“A very close family friend who is an adventurer in everything he does. I prayed a lot.”

In response to this post, actors Rufus Sewell, Barbara Crampton, Frances Fisher, and Elizabeth Perkins also shared their hopes that Sands is doing well.

Sewell, known for The Man in the High Castle, wrote: “God, I hope he’s okay.”

Sands is best known for her breakthrough role in the period drama A Room With A View, opposite Helena Bonham Carter, Sir Daniel Day-Lewis, Dame Judi Dench and Dame Maggie Smith.

He has also appeared in television roles in Leaving Las Vegas and Warlock and 24, Smallville and Banshee.

A spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement shared with the PA news agency: “At around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 13, a walker identified as 65-year-old Julian Sands from North Hollywood was reported missing. Baldy Bowl area.

“Sheriff’s department search and rescue teams responded and launched a search. Ground crews withdrew from the mountain on Saturday evening due to avalanche risk and trail conditions.

However, when the weather permits, we continue to search with helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles.”

The spokesperson added that additional ground searches will be planned when the weather improves and conditions are safer for rescuers.

Earlier, the department urged marchers to “think twice and heed the warnings” in the wake of the treacherous weather conditions in the area.

The force said search and rescue teams had responded to 14 calls in and around Mount Baldy in the past four weeks.

Sands, who most recently played the chief medical officer in the 2021 Jack Lowden and Peter Capaldi-led drama Benediction, was born in Yorkshire.

He has been living in Los Angeles since 2020.

From 1984 to 1987 he had a son with future editor of the Evening Standard and Today, Sarah Sands, and two daughters with journalist Evgenia Citkowitz, whom he married in 1990.
