Pokémon GOMega Salamence made its debut in Mega Raids with the start of the Twinkling Fantasy event on January 11, but getting one for your Pokédex is no easy feat.

You probably know that you can’t catch Salamence in his mega-enhanced form during the raid. This is because the mega boss of raids can always be caught in its normal state.

Salamence can be captured with the following CP values:

2054 – 2142 CP no air support

2568 – 2678 HP increased with Snow weather boost

To develop your own Mega Salamence, you must first collect enough Mega Energy for the first mega evolution.

This means you have to defeat multiple Mega Salamences in a raid to get enough Mega Energy to do this.

To convert a Salamence to Mega Salamence, you will need 200 Mega Energy for the first evolution. After that you need 40 Mega energy for each evolution stage.

Mega evolution is free if you wait for the “cool down” period to end. This cooldown time decreases as your Mega Pokémon’s mega level increases. You can also move your Mega Pokémon if you have them in your Pokédex to gain more Mega energy.

Successfully countering a Mega Salamence in a raid

You will need to use a wide variety of Pokémon types to successfully counter Mega Salamence.

If your team members don’t have optimal counters, you might consider bringing in a few more of these top trainers.

Level 40 player duos can defeat that Pokémon if you have a team of Ice-type Pokémon with mega evolution to support it.

The best raid counters for Mega Salamence include Ice (2x weakness), Dragon, Fairy, and Rock types.
