Actor Jeremy Renner thanked fans for his “kind words” as he continued to recover in hospital after being hit by a six-ton snowplow.
The 51-year-old Marvel star shared an update on his condition on social media two days after the incident that occurred near his home.
Renner was flown to hospital on Sunday after suffering “blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries” in an accident near the Mount Rose Highway, which connects Lake Tahoe on the Nevada-California border with southern Reno.
He posted a picture of himself in a hospital bed with a bruise on his face on his official Instagram page, saying he was too “stray” to send a longer message to his fans.
“Thank you all for your kind words. I am too messy to write now. But I am sending my love to you all,” she wrote.
At a news conference Tuesday, Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam said Renner was helping a family member who was stranded in heavy snow when the incident occurred.
Sheriff Balaam said the Sheriff’s office received a phone call at 8:55 a.m. following reports of an accident involving a SnowCat plow and a civilian.
“According to our investigation, Mr. Renner’s personal vehicle, driven by a family member, was stuck in snow near his home,” Sheriff Balam said at a press conference.
“Mr. Renner went to get his SnowCat, an extremely large snowplow weighing at least 14,330 pounds (6.4 tons) to get his vehicle moving.”
Sheriff Balaam said that after Renner successfully freed his vehicle, he went outside to talk to his family member when SnowCat started to move.
He tried to get back into the machine and was crushed at that point, Renner said.
Sheriff Balam added that there were no signs of “any foul” and that the incident was a “tragic accident”.
He continued to praise Renner, who is a Washoe County Sheriff’s Deputy, and his “enormous influence” in the community.
Sheriff Balaam said, “He not only had a huge impact in this office and helped us reach…
“He is one of those people who you don’t know is doing this most of the time, but who has had a tremendous impact on this community.”
A two-time Oscar nominee, Renner is best known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
He has also appeared in movies such as The Hurt Locker, American Hustle, and Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
She is also starring in the Paramount+ series The Mayor of Kingstown, and her second series will premiere in the UK on January 16.
In a statement to the PA news agency, Renner’s journalist said: “Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses who cared for him, the Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue Team, the Washoe County Sheriff, the City of Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve. Carano and Murdock families.
“They’re also extremely overwhelmed and grateful for the love and support from their fans.”
Renner’s accident occurred when blizzard conditions battered the United States during the Christmas and New Years period, resulting in dozens of deaths.
An arctic explosion stirred up strong winds and snow in Nevada on New Year’s Eve, leaving thousands without electricity.
Meanwhile, another low-pressure system bringing heavy snow and ice will be the last winter storm to hit the region in the coming days, according to the National Weather Service website.
Renner had previously mentioned the snow on his US farm several times on social media.
In December, he tweeted a photo of his car that looked like it was under several feet of snow and wrote: “The Lake Tahoe snowfall is no joke.”
Meanwhile, in a featured post on Instagram with the caption Holiday, the actor shared a photo of the snowplow and captioned it, “Snow cat buried in snow on the farm.”
He also shared a video of the snowplow on his Instagram story a week ago with “Who’s excited for the holidays” and in another post “The sledge hill for the kids is almost done.”
