Julian Sands’ family found a tow truck while searching for missing actor

Julian Sands’ family pulled his car out of a parking lot, which was discovered during a search for the British actor who went missing after a hiking trip in Southern California.

The 65-year-old was reported missing in the Baldy Bowl area of ​​the San Gabriel mountains on Friday evening, and searches continue by “helicopters and drones when weather permits” by local authorities.

A spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement shared with the PA news agency: “We will schedule a search for another location once the weather improves and the ground is safe for our crews.

“Sands’ vehicle was located in a parking lot that is believed to have parked him when he went for a walk on Friday. The vehicle was towed by the family.”

The statement also recommended that citizens “stay away from that area” because it is “extremely dangerous”.

Earlier, the ministry said search and rescue ground crews had withdrawn from the mountain on Saturday evening due to “road conditions” and “avalanche risk”.

Sands is best known for her breakthrough role in the period drama A Room With A View, opposite Helena Bonham Carter, Sir Daniel Day-Lewis, Dame Judi Dench and Dame Maggie Smith.

He has also appeared in television roles in Leaving Las Vegas and Warlock and 24, Smallville and Banshee.

After the news broke, All Creatures Great And Small actor Samuel West wrote on Twitter: “Please, please let Julian Sands be well. A friend and an inspiration. Terrible news.”

Filmmaker Cassian Elwes also wrote on Twitter: “I know since Friday my friend Julian Sands has been missing from Mt Baldy. I’m devastated.

“A very close family friend who is an adventurer in everything he does. I prayed a lot.”

In response to this post, actors Rufus Sewell, Barbara Crampton, Frances Fisher, and Elizabeth Perkins also shared their hopes that Sands is doing well.

Sewell, known for The Man in the High Castle, wrote: “God, I hope he’s okay.”

Earlier, the department urged marchers to “think twice and heed the warnings” in the wake of the treacherous weather conditions in the area.

The force said search and rescue teams had responded to 14 calls in and around Mount Baldy in the past four weeks.

Sands, who most recently played the chief medical officer in the 2021 Jack Lowden and Peter Capaldi-led drama Benediction, was born in Yorkshire.

He has been living in Los Angeles since 2020.

From 1984 to 1987 he had a son with future editor of the Evening Standard and Today, Sarah Sands, and two daughters with journalist Evgenia Citkowitz, whom he married in 1990.
