ZF, the world’s leading supplier of automotive cameras, headquartered in Peterlee, has set a remarkable production record.
The company produced its 50 millionth automotive camera and exceeded the annual 10 million mark, an industry first in automotive smart camera production.
ZF manufactures driving security cameras worldwide at its factories in Peterlee, Marshall, Illinois, Anting, and recently expanded Czestochowa, Poland, and has recently started production at its new factory in Monterrey, Mexico.
“We use the most advanced manufacturing and testing techniques at all ZF locations to help ensure the quality and reliability of our cameras, and we salute our dedicated teams around the world for their commitment to excellence,” said Jana Rosenmann, Head of Electronics and Advanced Drives. Support Systems Division for ZF Group.
“We have been manufacturing automotive cameras since 2008 and have become the world leader thanks to continuous innovation and attention to detail in the design and manufacturing processes.”

ZF and its longtime partner Mobileye design, develop and deliver camera systems based on Mobileye’s EyeQ processors for advanced object recognition technology. ZF is using this technology in its Smart cameras, including the groundbreaking triple-lens Triple Camera that supports advanced semi-automatic driving functions by adding a telephoto lens for enhanced long-distance sensing capabilities and a fish-eye lens for enhanced short-range sensing. Distance sensing with a wider field of view.
“This milestone reflects the work we undertake together to improve driver safety around the world through ADAS technology,” said Nimrod Nehushtan, Senior Vice President, Business Development and Strategy, Mobileye.
“As our systems evolve to take on more driving responsibilities and become even smarter through cloud-based services and additional sensors, we know this collaboration will continue to provide technology that car owners will appreciate for years to come.”

For single-lens cameras, ZF is the fourth generation and introduces the Smart Camera 4.8 family, one of the first cameras to feature a 100-degree field of view. This represents an important step in meeting future European safety ratings, as well as regulations that require increasingly stringent testing protocols for safety-critical systems.
ZF provides advanced sensor technologies, including front-facing cameras, advanced imaging and satellite radar systems, to more than a dozen vehicle manufacturers worldwide. The ZF sensor portfolio allows vehicle manufacturers to increase vehicle safety and make semi-automatic driving convenience functions such as Highway Driving and Congestion Assistance available to all light vehicles. The company is a leader in autonomous driving technologies, including fully autonomous vehicles.
