Sarah, Duchess of York pays tribute to the star as she speaks about the Queen at her memorial service

Sarah, the Duchess of York, paid tribute to Lisa Marie Presley at a memorial service to celebrate her life, named her Sissie, and shared an anecdote about her late mother-in-law, the Queen.

The Duchess was one of many paying tribute to the star in the front yard of Graceland Mansion in Memphis, Tennessee, on Sunday.

Expanding for years, the property has been the destination for tribute payers. elvishowever, following her death at the age of 54 on January 12, the iconic house became the venue for those who said their last goodbyes to their daughter.

The event began with a powerful rendition of Amazing Grace performed in black by Jason Clark and The Tennessee Mass Choir, accompanied by a photo of Lisa Marie.

Filmmaker Joel Weinshanker began the service by saying that he hoped they could grant Lisa Marie’s “not sad” wishes, and was followed on the stage by Pastor Dwayne Hunt, who paid tribute to her “passion, strength, brilliance and perseverance.”

Former Memphis mayor AC Wharton listed several famous parents, including Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, in a moment of silence, and continued: “Before Jay-Z and Beyonce were born. Blue Ivy and Long before Prince Harry and Meghan had Archie, right here in this city, our own royal couple Elvis and Priscilla had a beautiful ball of joy named Lisa Marie…

“Fifty-four years ago, there was a shining star above Graceland with the birth of this precious angel.” She said it was an integral part of Memphis, calling it a “precious gem” and the “sister” of everyone who lived there.

As the only daughter of the King of Rock and Roll, she described her as “the canal to the throne” and the “keeper of the fire”.

“Lisa Marie was totally Memphis. She belonged to us and we belonged to her.”

Sarah, the Duchess of York, then took the podium, speaking about the Queen in a moment of silence and offering her support for the late singer’s children.

He said: “We have to set our hearts ablaze to celebrate the extraordinary Lisa Marie. I stand here with great honor because we used to call each other Sissie. I’ve been here with you all your life and I stand here with great honor. So Sissie, this is with love for you.”

Continuing to tell an anecdote about the Queen, “My late mother-in-law used to say, ‘Nothing can be said, it can start to take away the pain and suffering of these moments because our price is grief. Pay the price for love’ and how right she was.”

‘Our hearts are broken’

A tearful Priscilla Presley later recited a poem her granddaughter wrote about the loss of her mother, called The Old Soul. She finished her reading by saying, “We’re heartbroken, Lisa, we all love you.”

Lisa Marie’s manager, Jerry Schilling, described her as “the only person who could intimidate Jerry Lee Lewis”. She continued: “I was in the hospital with her father when Priscilla gave birth, I was in the hospital when her mother left us. Memphis, I will always love you.”

Rock singer Axl Rose said he was “still in shock” about Lisa Marie’s death and said, “I think right now I should text her and tell everyone how amazing she is.” He continued to sing November Rain on the piano.

Other musical performances include Billy Corgan performing To Sheila by The Smashing Pumpkins, Alanis Morissette singing an emotional rendition of Rest, and the Blackwood Brothers Quartet singing How Great Thou Art and Sweet Sweet Spirit, previously performed by Elvis.

Riley’s homage to her mother and first mention of her daughter

Actor and stuntman Ben Smith-Petersen, husband of Lisa Marie’s daughter Riley, read an emotional tribute to Riley, titled To My Mother.

Part of the letter read: “I hope I can love my daughter as you love me, as you love my brothers and sisters. Thank you for giving me strength, heart, empathy, courage and sense of humor. , my demeanor, my temper, my brutality, my perseverance. I am the product of your heart. My sisters are the product of your heart, my brother is the product of your heart.”

Smith-Petersen and Riley have been married since 2015 but have not disclosed that they have a daughter together before.

‘Daddy’s protector’

Joel Weinshanker closed the ceremony with the words: “Lisa’s voice will only grow stronger with time and will never be silenced or diminished. She was and will always be her father’s protector and we will continue to be hers”.

He asked everyone present to respect the family’s wishes not to be photographed or videotaped.

Those present were then invited in groups to view Lisa Marie’s tombstone in the Meditation Garden.

Elvis is buried at Graceland, as are his parents, paternal grandmother, and grandson Benjamin Keough – son of Lisa Marie – who took his own life at age 27 in 2020.

Lisa Marie’s final resting place is next to her son and next to her father.

Elvis died of heart failure at the age of 42 when Lisa Marie was just nine years old. Elvis and Priscilla Presley were four years old when they divorced in 1972.

Lisa Marie has been married four times, including pop star Michael Jackson and actor Nicolas Cage.

She struggled with opioid addiction after the birth of her twin daughters in 2008.

Just months before his death, he wrote in an article for People magazine: “I’ve been dealing with death, grief, and loss since I was nine years old.

“I’ve had more of that in my life than anyone else, and somehow I’ve gotten this far.”

He continued: “Death is part of life, whether we like it or not—and so is mourning.”

Lisa Marie is survived by her three daughters, actress and model Riley Keough, and younger twins Finley Lockwood and Harper Lockwood.

The Graceland estate, which was inherited by Elvis after his death, will be inherited by his children.
