Seth Rogen described a “weird” conversation he had with Tom Cruise, where the actor allegedly tried to convince him of the merits of Scientology.
In an interview with Howard Stern’s radio show, Rogen described some of the bizarre Hollywood experiences documented in his forthcoming essay book: yearbookIncluding a trip to Cruise’s house around 2006.
The actor began his “weird” story by explaining that nearly 15 years ago, at the “peak” of Cruise’s “mania”, he and film director Judd Apatow were invited to visit the actor’s home in Los Angeles to talk about the movies.
The visit took place shortly after the birth of Suri, the daughter of Cruise and his wife, Katie Holmes. Rogen said he thought Holmes “had a vague ‘please get me out of this place’ look on his face”.
Describing the encounter as “absurd”, Rogan explained that the topic of Scientology had been brought up, and more specifically, “how weird” Cruise had been “looking at the press lately”.
Cruise allegedly told Rogen: “I think the pharmaceutical industry makes me look bad.”
Rogen said he thought it was a “weird assumption.”
This super bad The star claimed that Cruise later started talking to himself and Apatow about the appeal of his religion, saying: “It’s like in Scientology. If you let me tell you what this is really about… give me, like, 20 minutes to tell you what it’s really about, ‘It’s impossible. No way.'”
In response, Rogen asked himself and Apatow, “Will he bite? Will I bite? Can we get out of this? Are we strong enough to let him do this to us and not be transformed?
Rogen added that he was very grateful to have been with the filmmaker at the time, as he saw himself as “generally a weak-willed, weak-minded person.” “Thank God Judd was like, ‘Well, I think we’re fine. Let’s just talk about movies and stuff.'”
He said Cruise’s pitch was “attractive” and that “if I had been there alone, I would have been singing a very different tune right now” but he had “dodged that bullet”.
Cruise is one of Scientology’s most famous followers, describing religion as “beautiful.” He has followed Scientology since he was introduced to the organization by his first wife, Mimi Rogers, in 1986.
